Big Bang Science Fair 2010

In March 2010 the Society for the Environment exhibited at The Big Bang Science Fair.   The aim of the Fair was to showcase Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in all its forms and give the students an insight into the way our world is affected by these subjects.

SocEnv were delighted to collaborate with several of its member bodies on two interactive stands at the event, both of which proved to be a success.  The first stand, in association with The Society of Environmental Engineers and Lockhead Martin, was a demonstration stand of a simple Solar Water Heater built by Steve Burnage of Lockheed Martin. The idea behind the project was to show students how effective the Sun is at producing heat and light.

The second was an interactive wall created in association eight professional organisations who are listed at the bottom of this page.   The Society would like to extend a sincere thank you to Tamasin Young of the Science Council for her superb logistical skills in ensuring the success of the Wall and Careers Quest elements of the fair.  Thanks also goes to Graham Waite of SEE and Steve Burnage of Lockhead Martin, for their superb contribution to the Solar Power demonstration stand, which inlcuded a competition with equipment for the winning 2 schools.

As part of the interactive wall, children were also asked to write their thoughts on a postcard to the Prime Minister of the UK.  Their comments were displayed and collated for a report prepared by the Royal Meteorological Society; this report was circulated to the political parties on the run up to the Election.   You can download this report and more information about our stand at the show below:
