International Year of Biodiversity SocEnv Blog
It is an important year for biological diversity. Countries around the world have set themselves targets to reduce the decline in biodiversity; Britain and the EU have gone further to seek to halt the decline by 2010. But all indications are that we are all failing to meet the targets by quite a distance. SocEnv would like to hear your views on biodiversity.
Follow my blog below on the run up to 'Green Week, Brussels in June, whilst I try to discover the answers to some of these questions:
-
Do we have the right skills and competencies to deal with biodiversity issues in Britain?
-
Do we have the right regulatory framework to address biodiversity?
-
Are we valuing the benefits of maintaining biodiversity well enough when we compare it to the easy ways of valuing new infrastructure investments and the consumption of natural resources?
-
Do we need a new target for the future, and if so what should it be, or do we need to free ourselves from targets we do not intend to or are unable to meet?
To discuss the questions above join in the debate in our CEnv Biodiversity Forum.
