06.06.2007 - Aubrey Meyer Guest Speaker at the Society's 2nd Annual Reception.
The Second SocEnv Annual Reception – following the AGM – was a great success. An invited audience of 80 senior figures from the environment sector were captivated by guest speaker Aubrey Meyer - Director of the Global Commons Institute. His powerful presentation was set to live music performed by Aubrey himself - a classical musician and composer. He illuminated the reality of Climate Change and how the Contraction & Convergence (C&C) framework could be used as a global tool to move towards a reduction in carbon emissions equitably across the developed and developing countries. His message was clear – “global warming is real and carbon reduction targets need to have rationale behind them based on sound science and realistic goals.”

“One of our key objectives is to be the leading and co-ordinating professional body in environmental matters and a pre-eminent champion of a sustainable environment. Make no mistake, environmental initiatives and promising innovations occur almost daily and in quantity and all the while society is trying to assimilate them. Whether that is the business community, the professions, or the general public, there are consequences for each.
