SocEnv expresses concerns over UK green policy reversals

climate change

The policy changes outlined in this announcement raise significant questions about the government’s commitment to delivering the UK’s net zero and adaptation targets.

From the SocEnv statement

In September 2023, SocEnv raised concerns regarding the green policy announcements made by the UK Prime Minister. We issued our own statement and signed up in support of collective letters from the Environmental Policy Forum and signatories and supporters of the Professional Bodies Climate Action Charter. In both we make two main arguments:

  • These policy reversals are reflective of an unstable policy environment and are hugely detrimental to our chances of delivering net zero in the timeframe as committed.
  • These policy reversals fail to recognise the economic, social, and environmental benefits of achieving net zero.
