A delegation of 75 SocEnv board members and special guests were delighted to be joined by Dr Peter Bonfield, Chief Executive of the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and key sustainability advisor to the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) at the Christmas Reception in December.
For the past five years Dr Bonfield has been on part-time secondment to the ODA helping create the sustainable development strategy for the Olympics and support its delivery. >> Read More

CIOB Takes Action on Carbon
With government legislation constantly being updated and an ever-growing body of guidance and advice about managing carbon dioxide emissions, understanding what can be done to make a difference is often one of the biggest challenges facing professionals trying to implement environmental sustainability in the workplace.
This is why SocEnv Licensed Body the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has launched the online Carbon Action 2050 plan for the built environment.

Environment 2011: Adapting to Change Through Localism
SocEnv was delighted to exhibit at the Environment 2011 conference “Adapting to Change through Localism" in December, where speakers from central government, local government and business discussed strategies for dealing with climate change and environmental challenges at local level.
The event provided a forum for leading environmentalists to discuss the future of localism and how local authorities, the environment agency and bodies such as conference host Environmental Protection UK (EPUK), can continue to provide the vital link between national policy and local action to protect the environment, in the wake of government cuts. >> Read More
IES Graduate Internship Report
The Institute for Environmental Science (IES) recently published a comprehensive report entitled ‘Graduate Employment and Internships: issues from the environmental sciences and sustainability sectors’.

SocEnv would cease to function without the ongoing generous support of our team of dedicated volunteers. During the Christmas Reception, the Society took the opportunity to thank two of these volunteers, David Lloyd-Roach and Tony Plytas, for their outstanding and vital contributions to the aims and operations of SocEnv by presenting them with Honorary Fellowship Awards.

ABE Sustainability Workshops
The Government's forthcoming Green Deal initiative is set to look at energy use in existing properties. It is a set of proposals which will allow consumers to make energy improvements to their homes or premises and pay back the cost through their energy bills.
